Setting Up a Logger

A 4000/5000 Series Datalogger is always logging (unless its memory is full and Wrap is off) and there is no mechanism to stop it. This is a deliberate design feature to ensure reliability. The devices are effectively reset by clearing their memory. An indefinitely delayed start time can be selected when the device is programmed

1.Connect the Logger.

When it has been registered by the USB driver, the Setup DataLogger button will become enabled.

ENSURE THAT THERE IS A GOOD BATTERY FITTED

2.Click on the Setup DataLogger button.

The Setup dialog will appear, loaded with the device's current settings.

3.Set the Logging Interval as desired (hh:mm:ss).

Acceptable values are from 10 seconds to 24 hours inclusive (e.g. a 30 minute logging interval is set as 00:30:00).

The faster the logging, the less the battery life - so choose a value as long as possible, appropriate to the job in hand

4.Set the Memory Full setting:

Stop Logging: The Logger will stop logging when the memory becomes full.

Wrap Round: The Logger will start to overwrite the oldest logged data with the latest data when the memory becomes full.

The Memory Filled field will display the time the Logger memory becomes full or the point at which data will start to be overwritten if Wrap is on.

5.Enter an Identification .

6.The Serial Number cannot be edited.
7.Set Alarms if desired.
8.Click on Program Logger to restart the logging.

THIS WILL CLEAR THE LOGGER MEMORY OF DATA.

9.A dialog box will appear showing the default start time.

To set a delay, enter the desired start time e.g. 12:00:00 on 05/04/07. This time must be at least one minute into the future. This value will be retained during a session (unless it becomes too early) to easily allow multiple Loggers to be set to start at the same time

10.Click on OK to send this Start Time to the Logger.

11.Once the Logger has been successfully set up, disconnect it from the PC.

DO NOT NOW REMOVE THE BATTERY FROM THE LOGGER UNTIL THE SESSION HAS FINISHED AND YOU HAVE RETRIEVED YOUR DATA EXCEPT IF THE BATTERY INDICATOR INDICATES THE BATTERY VOLTAGE IS TO LOW THEN IT CAN BE CHANGED WHILST CONNECTED TO A USB PORT WITHOUT INTERRUPTING LOGGING
